Not necessarily. Many exporters sell to Canada through a Canadian importer or distributor, who handles the import. Opening a company there can make sense if you are going to sell directly to retailers or hold inventory in Canada. During the consultation we look at which path suits you.
The CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) regulates the import of food, plants and animals. Depending on your product, it may require the importer to hold a licence under the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, phytosanitary certificates and English and French labelling.
