How to export to Canada from Peru: 7 questions before your first shipment

Want to know how to export to Canada? Before looking for buyers or getting freight quotes, start with what matters most: an internal analysis of your Export Readiness, that is, how prepared your company is to export. Answer these 7 questions before taking the first step.

The 7 Export Readiness questions

01

Is your product ready to export?

Your sales are proven and successful in your country. Now ask yourself: does the Canadian market really need this product? Can you adapt it or add value that improves its price and positioning?
02

Can you adapt it to the market's rules?

Labelling, pricing, regulations and import rules: every country has its own requirements. Does your product meet Canada's? If you export food, review the CFIA requirements and the rules for food labelling in Canada.
03

Do you know the reality of the Canadian market?

How people live, what they eat, how they think, what they buy and what they don't. Without this knowledge you'll be exporting blind.
04

Is your logistics route clear?

Do you know which port, airport or route you'll use to reach that market? Logistics can't be improvised.
05

Do you have the financial capacity to wait?

Can you wait up to 180 days for your first payment? Exporting isn't a cash sale: you need working capital.
06

Can your company handle additional demand?

Your product is a local success, but do you have the infrastructure, the team and the production capacity to serve a bigger market?
07

Have you designed your entry strategy?

How will you enter that market? Define your entry methods: a distributor network, an Importer of Record, strategic partnerships or e-commerce. It will help to read how to find importers in Canada and whether you need a company in Canada to sell.

In short: exporting successfully to Canada depends less on luck and more on preparation. If you answered “no” or “I'm not sure” to any of these questions, that's your starting point.
