The mango market in Canada: data, seasons and opportunities for exporters

I was recently commissioned to prepare an MIP (Market Information Paper) , a market study, for an international organization of mango producers looking to steer its production towards the Canadian market. Here I share some findings on the mango market in Canada: real data, not theory.

A market with steady growth

Mango consumption in Canada is growing steadily, driven by three forces:

  • Demand for exotic fruit.
  • A growing multicultural population, mainly of Asian and Latin American origin.
  • The trend towards healthy eating: superfoods and vitamin-rich tropical fruit.

Production vs. imports: total dependence

Because of its climate, Canada has no commercial mango production and depends 100% on imports. This means one thing: if you grow mangoes, Canada is a market that needs you.

The numbers: 2025 sales and outlook to 2031

CAD 140–160 M

Estimated value of mango imports in 2025, within a CAD 1.0 B tropical fruit segment led by Mexico and Peru.

4.5% – 6%

Projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for 2026–2031.

≈ CAD 200 M

Estimated market value by 2031, driven by demand for processed fruit and ingredients for the food industry.

Who supplies Canada, and in which season?

  • Mexico (~60–65% of the market): dominates the spring and summer window (March to August) with efficient land logistics.
  • Peru (~15–20%): supplies mainly during the Canadian winter (December to March), with high-quality fruit by sea and air.
  • Ecuador and Colombia: cover the autumn transition windows.
  • Brazil and Asia (India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand): supply niche windows or premium ethnic varieties.

Why an operational market study?

Most market studies are very theoretical: nice charts, generic projections and recommendations that never land. My approach is operational. I don't deliver a PDF nobody reads: I deliver real data, concrete windows of opportunity and actionable recommendations so you know when, how and to whom to sell in Canada.

Want a market study you can actually execute?

If you want to steer your production, of mango or any other product, towards the Canadian market, let's talk. I'll show you how to turn data into decisions.
